A 24-year-old woman from Xinjiang, China, has successfully and safely given birth to quintuplets. Medical data shows that the chance of naturally conceiving quintuplets worldwide is only one in 60 million, making this a true miracle of life.

The 24-year-old expectant mother from Xinjiang, due to the extremely high risks associated with multiple pregnancies, traveled thousands of kilometers to Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University seeking help.

At around 11:30 p.m. on the 25th, she showed signs of premature rupture of membranes and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The hospital immediately activated the emergency cesarean section plan. Doctors and nurses from obstetrics, neonatology, anesthesiology, and the operating department all assembled within 15 minutes to make comprehensive preparations for the surgery.

Around 3 a.m. on the 26th, the medical staff delivered the five babies one after another during the operation, while continuously monitoring the vital signs of the mother and babies throughout the process.

The five babies weighed: first boy 990g, second girl 1020g, third girl 970g, fourth girl 1030g, and fifth boy 870g. All newborns had an Apgar score above 6, and their vital signs were relatively stable.

After birth, doctors immediately used uterotonic drugs and performed autologous blood transfusion to prevent postpartum hemorrhage and ensure the mother’s good postoperative recovery. The mother has now been transferred to a general ward.

The doctors stated that these premature babies, born at a young gestational age and with low birth weight, will face obstacles such as overcoming respiratory, infection, and nutritional challenges going forward. The hospital will closely monitor their growth and development.

Doctors remind that multiple pregnancies and childbirth are not recommended, as such pregnancies are considered high-risk, with significantly increased risk of complications for both mother and babies. It is advised that pregnant women undergo timely prenatal diagnosis and pregnancy monitoring to ensure the safety of both mother and child.
