After Rejecting the Vatican, Russia Supports Holding the Next Round of Russia-Ukraine Talks in Turkey

Russia supports holding the next round of peace talks with Ukraine in Turkey as the host country.

Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said in Moscow on the 27th, after meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan: “We appreciate Turkey's willingness to continue assisting in these talks and promoting a peaceful resolution.”

This month, Russia and Ukraine held their first direct talks since Russia took military action against Ukraine in 2022, in Istanbul. Regarding the suggestion to hold the next round of Russia-Ukraine talks in the Vatican, a Russian official stated they do not consider the Vatican to be a serious mediator for these talks.

Russia Preparing Russia-Ukraine Peace Agreement Memorandum

Additionally, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova said at a press conference on the 27th that Russia is preparing a memorandum on the Russia-Ukraine peace agreement, which will outline the principles and possible timeline for resolving the crisis.

She said that Russia is drafting a memorandum on the future Russia-Ukraine peace agreement, which will clarify the Russian position, including principles for resolving the crisis, a possible timeline for reaching a peace agreement, and a possible “period of ceasefire” should an agreement be reached.

She stated that once the document is completed, Russia will transfer this memorandum to Ukraine.
