The Malaysian Armed Forces stated that the 2025 Professional Interaction and Strategic Dialogue Program (PIID 2025), held earlier in Melaka, discussed several topics, including the potential for ASEAN defense industry cooperation, post-crisis India-Pakistan relations, and great power competition in the South China Sea.
According to the statement, this program, co-hosted by the Malaysian and Singaporean Armed Forces, began on July 10 and spanned three days, with a total of 40 senior officers and personnel from both countries participating.
“The highlight of the program was a strategic dialogue session, with participants consisting of lieutenant colonel and major-level officers from both countries, and joined by Malaysian Armed Forces Chief General Tan Sri Mohamad Affandi and Singapore Armed Forces Chief Lieutenant General Melvyn Ong.”
“Both sides discussed various topics, including the potential for ASEAN defense industry cooperation, post-crisis India-Pakistan relations, as well as great power competition in the South China Sea.”
This year, PIID also invited mid-level officers for the first time, aiming to enhance new strategic perspectives and foster a spirit of friendship in a relaxed atmosphere.
“PIID 2025 clearly demonstrates the commitment and unity of the Malaysian and Singaporean Armed Forces in strengthening bilateral cooperation, and maintaining regional peace and stability.”
“In addition, it serves as an important platform for formulating bilateral strategic thinking to address regional security challenges, while also strengthening defense cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore.”
