Under Strengthened U.S. Blockade, China Completes Delivery of 30,000 Tons of Rice to Cuba

Amid the Trump administration’s recent reinforcement of the blockade against Cuba, Russian media reported on the 30th that the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced it had recently received the final batch—totaling 15,600 tons—of rice from China’s aid. With this, China’s January announcement to provide Cuba with 30,000 tons of rice has been fulfilled.

According to Russian news agency Sputnik, the Cuban Foreign Ministry stated on its official website that a ship named Loyalty Hong recently delivered 15,600 tons of rice to Havana port to support Cuba’s food supply, marking the third such vessel shipped from China with rice and other goods.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry noted that, under the “humanitarian aid framework” announced by the Chinese Embassy in Cuba in January, Cuba has now received this final rice shipment from China. Through this humanitarian aid, China has delivered a total of 30,000 tons of rice to Cuba, and the delivery is now complete.

Earlier this year, U.S. President Trump deployed troops to Venezuela to forcibly remove President Maduro. Subsequently, the U.S. effectively blocked Cuba’s oil supplies, causing further strain on Cuba’s economy. Recently, as the U.S. and Israel jointly attacked Iran, Trump also threatened to take action against Cuba. In contrast, China, which has long maintained good relations with Cuba, has consistently opposed the U.S.'s actions.

Amid these circumstances, foreign media reported that on the 14th, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel unusually admitted that the Cuban people were dissatisfied due to food shortages and electricity outages.
