The mission of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Association™ is to engage and inspire young people in creativity and problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging way. They achieve this by organizing robotics competitions across four different categories for students aged 8 to 19. The WRO™ is an independent, non-profit organization, and all sponsorship and fee income is used to support their mission of promoting the use of robotics in STEM education worldwide. The WRO® championship currently takes place in over 95 countries.
The theme of WRO® 2024 is "Earth's Allies." In 2024, teams will further explore how humans impact nature and how nature and natural events affect us. They will study how robots can help us coexist harmoniously with nature. Can robots help us live in dangerous or harsh natural environments, and can they help us lead more environmentally friendly lives?
The event has participants from 87 countries, including the United States, Germany, China, Denmark, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, and others, with over 3,000 representatives competing for top honors.
SMJK Chung Hua Miri Principal Lai Jia Ling stated that the purpose of this competition is to cultivate the scientific and technological abilities and innovation awareness of primary and secondary school students, while allowing them to adapt to the trends of scientific and technological development in the 21st century. This competition paves the way for young people to discover and solve problems, enhancing their comprehensive skills. Remarkably, it provides an opportunity for youth to exchange and challenge with contestants from different countries. They incorporate STEM education and modern scientific concepts into educational activities, integrating science and technology with life.
WRO provides an opportunity to foster creative thinking among young people, enhancing their communication and cooperation skills, and strengthening their ability to acquire new knowledge. It shows strong promotion of innovative education and educational reform. Through more students using LEGO education products, more students can become interested in robotics development. Partners of this activity include universities, education departments, and publishers from various countries. This event can trigger public interest, especially among high school students, in engineering and information technology. It allows aspiring engineering students to design and build robots, drawing valuable experiences. SMJK Chung Hua Miri is committed to developing students' potential, unleashing their creativity, and benefiting society as a whole. Principal Lai wishes all national team members to bring glory to the country, start with success, and return victorious.
