(Kuching, 8th) Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak will be holding its Open Day event on April 11.
The event will take place from 10am to 4pm on the day at its campus located on Jalan Simpang Tiga, primarily targeting secondary school leavers seeking affordable and internationally recognized higher education locally.
The Open Day will highlight the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES), helping students thoroughly understand the eligibility criteria, benefits, and application procedures.
The university stated in a press release on Tuesday (April 7): “Under the FTES program, eligible Sarawakian students can receive quality education free from tuition fees, and also receive allowances during their studies to ease their financial burden.”
This program, launched by the Sarawak government, covers tuition fees for selected undergraduate courses, and provides monthly allowances for students from qualifying low-income families.
At Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, 22 undergraduate programs are eligible for FTES, including engineering, computer science, biotechnology, design, and business fields such as accounting and finance.
An FTES briefing session will be held at 10:30am that day to answer frequently asked questions, allowing students and parents to gain a clearer understanding of the related details.
Additionally, visitors can consult academic staff and guidance counselors about study pathways, scholarships, and career development opportunities.
Representatives from the Sarawak Foundation and the National Higher Education Fund Corporation will also be present to provide information on scholarships, loans, and other financial assistance.
Meanwhile, University of Malaya officials will explain the jointly-offered law course with Swinburne Sarawak.
Attendees can also interact with current students, join campus tours, and take personality and career tests to experience campus life and explore suitable courses.
On-site registration is available, and eligible applicants only need to bring identification documents and certified academic transcripts to receive an offer letter on the same day.
Swinburne Sarawak’s foundation program will commence on April 27, while diploma and bachelor’s degree programs will begin in June and September respectively.
