Afghan government spokesperson Mujahid confirmed on social media in the early morning of the 27th that the Afghan capital Kabul, parts of Kandahar province, and Paktia province were hit by Pakistani military airstrikes. There are currently no reports of casualties.
According to Xinhua News Agency, at around 2:10 a.m. that day, a loud explosion was heard in central Kabul, with sounds suspected to be those of aircraft flying overhead, followed by intense gunfire.
Sources from the Pakistani military told Xinhua reporters that Pakistan carried out airstrikes early that morning on key Afghan military facilities in Kabul, Kandahar province, and Paktia province. The airstrike operation was in response to an Afghan attack on a Pakistani border outpost the previous evening, and the action destroyed multiple Afghan command centers, ammunition depots, and logistical bases.
The source said that after the airstrike on Kabul, the Afghan side requested a ceasefire, but Pakistan decided to continue the airstrikes until their objectives were fully achieved.
The airstrike on Kabul took place just hours after a border clash between the two countries. On the evening of the 26th, Mujahid posted on social media that in response to “provocations” from Pakistani forces, the Afghan side struck Pakistani military facilities in border areas. The Afghan Ministry of Defense later issued a statement claiming they had captured 15 Pakistani military outposts and killed 55 Pakistani soldiers.
A spokesperson for Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz issued a statement saying that Pakistani security forces launched effective counterattacks, killing 72 Afghan militants, wounding 120, destroying 16 Afghan outposts, and occupying 7 Afghan outposts.
Over the past few days, Afghanistan and Pakistan have engaged in intermittent firefights in the border region between eastern Afghanistan and northwestern Pakistan. The cause stems from Pakistani airstrikes overnight on the 21st and early morning of the 22nd, targeting multiple camps along the border that Pakistan claims housed terrorists. Pakistan stated the airstrikes killed more than 80 terrorists, while Afghanistan claimed the strikes killed 18 people, including women and children.
● Afghanistan Launches Retaliatory Action
On the 27th, an Afghan government spokesperson said on social media that after Pakistani military airstrikes on Kabul, Kandahar, and other areas, the Afghan side launched a large-scale retaliatory operation against Pakistani military targets from Kandahar and Helmand provinces.
