(Miri, 8th) The Miri City Council held its second Customer Day of the year at the Keadeyan Hawker Center today, engaging with the public on issues related to infrastructure and public services, and collecting opinions and suggestions to improve municipal management and service levels.
Miri Mayor Adam Yii stated at the Customer Day press conference that the event received a total of 11 complaints and suggestions, including 5 issues related to engineering, 2 related to public cleanliness management, 1 related to horticulture, 1 parking issue, and 2 public health issues.
He pointed out that regarding engineering issues, the drainage system of Desa Murni is clogged due to severe garbage accumulation, requiring enhanced drainage cleaning, and the city council has intensified the cleaning of drains. As for the Keadeyan Hawker Centre, the current drainage cover design is inconvenient for cleaning, suggesting a replacement with grate-type drainage covers; additionally, the smart screen at the hawker center is malfunctioning and needs repair. On the other hand, the drains at Taman Mulia Phase 2 and Lusut Jaya need to be widened and deepened to improve drainage capacity.
Regarding public health issues, he stated that the fans and lighting equipment at the Keadeyan Hawker Center are damaged, affecting vendors and customers, and need to be repaired promptly. The drainage blockage in Desa Murni affects the drainage system, and the city council will enhance garbage disposal measures. Additionally, Tunku Village lacks sufficient garbage bins, and the city council will consider adding more to improve sanitary conditions.
On horticultural issues, the mayor stated that residents of Desa Murni have complained about mango trees needing removal, and the city council will arrange for the task. Regarding parking issues, he mentioned a suggestion to add taxi-only parking spaces at the market to improve traffic order.
He also mentioned that in the past week, Miri experienced continuous heavy rainfall, leading to landslides in some areas and the accumulation of bulky waste (such as mattresses). Due to limited manpower and resources, the city council appeals to residents with large trucks or lorries to volunteer to help transport bulky waste to the landfill. Those willing to provide voluntary assistance can contact the Public Cleaning and Maintenance Department (telephone: 442411) to arrange a time.
Additionally, Mayor Adam Yii especially thanked the Miri City Council team and related staff who remained at their posts outside of working hours, actively handling various municipal matters. She emphasized that in the event of a disaster, the city council will immediately carry out rescue and cleaning work to provide assistance to residents, hoping everyone can jointly maintain Miri's urban environment.
