(Bandar Seri Begawan, 18th) A 63-year-old Bruneian driver tragically passed away after a traffic accident on Bukit Kerava Road in Lawas District, Sarawak.
Lawas District Police Chief Superintendent Liong Tindan stated that the accident involved an SUV registered in a neighboring country. At the time of the incident, the deceased was driving two passengers to Lawas town.
According to Malaysian media reports, the car lost control after heavy rain and plunged into a rapidly flowing drainage ditch. The driver sadly died while receiving treatment at Lawas Hospital, while the two passengers suffered minor injuries.
Currently, police are investigating the accident under Section 41(1) of the Malaysian Road Transport Act 1987.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operation center received an emergency call at 5:37 PM. The Lawas Fire and Rescue station’s rescue team arrived at the scene at 5:56 PM. The operation commander reported that before the firefighters arrived, the deceased had already been rescued by passersby.
The firefighters assisted the Malaysian Ministry of Health personnel in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
