(Miri, 24th) Miri Central Bus Terminal is charging long-distance bus passengers an additional RM3 as a "service and maintenance fee," issuing receipts featuring the Miri City Council logo. In response, Miri Mayor Adam Yii clarified today that the fee is not imposed by the city council and has not been included in the city council's revenue.
After presiding over the Miri City Council's fourth monthly meeting of 2025, Adam Yii responded to media inquiries at a press conference, emphasizing that the fee is determined by the terminal's management company and has no connection to the city council.
He explained that the Central Bus Terminal, located in the Miri Expressway Commercial Area, was built by the city council but is operated by a private management company, which is jointly established by various long-distance bus companies.

Addressing the company's collection of a RM3 fee under the guise of a "pass" or similar to an airport boarding pass, Adam Yii stated that the reasonableness and compliance of this fee may require review and approval by the transportation department, falling outside the jurisdiction of the city council.
Adam Yii further pointed out that the contract signed between the city council and the terminal management company does not mention the collection of a RM3 service fee, hence the fee is not part of the city council's finances.
He promised to investigate the matter to clarify the basis and legality of the fee. Additionally, he questioned why the receipts issued by the management company bear the city council's logo, stating that further examination and necessary actions would be taken.
He illustrated that if a company leases management rights to another company, the lessee should decide the charges, but the management company should not imprint the official logo of the original property owner on the fee receipt.
He stressed that this issue involves administrative norms and that the city council will conduct an investigation according to the law and make further decisions upon clarifying the legal basis.
