A 64-year-old man, suspected of being jealous over his ex-wife's remarriage, took advantage of the moment when his ex-wife and former mother-in-law were sleeping to sneak into their bedroom and set it on fire, resulting in both women suffering severe burns.

This incident occurred last Friday (3rd) at 1:45 a.m. in Tubanan Village (Desa Tubanan), Kembang, Central Java, Indonesia.

It is reported that the 64-year-old suspect brought a bottle filled with flammable liquid and quietly entered the victims’ room. At that time, the 63-year-old ex-wife and her 87-year-old mother were sleeping.

According to police, the suspect poured the flammable liquid over the two victims and then used a wooden stick wrapped with a piece of cloth to light the fire, causing the bedroom to quickly catch fire.

The victims' desperate cries for help startled nearby residents, who rushed to the scene and managed to put out the fire before it spread further. The two victims were then rushed to a hospital in Jepara for emergency treatment.

According to the hospital's report, the injuries of both victims are extremely serious, with burns covering nearly 90% of their bodies.

After the incident, the suspect was subdued by local residents and handed over to the police for handling. It is reported that after committing the crime, the suspect showed symptoms of physical weakness and vomiting.

Through a preliminary investigation, police found that the motive for the crime was suspected to be jealousy. After learning that his ex-wife planned to remarry, the suspect harbored resentment and acted viciously.

Currently, the police have officially filed a case and launched a thorough investigation, which includes recording witness statements and collecting physical evidence at the scene. The suspect will next face severe legal punishment for intentionally causing serious injury to others.
