Thailand's New Cabinet Sworn In, Energy Crisis Becomes Top Challenge

Thailand’s new cabinet held its inauguration ceremony in Bangkok on the 6th. Thai Prime Minister Anutin led cabinet members in taking the oath of office, officially beginning his second term as prime minister.

That evening, Anutin took his cabinet members to the Royal Palace to pay respects to King Maha Vajiralongkorn and swore allegiance before him.

After the oath-taking ceremony, Anutin chaired a special cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office to review and confirm the draft policy statement that will soon be submitted to parliament.

While summarizing past achievements, Anutin stated that given the complex and ever-changing global geopolitical landscape, the government will implement focused strategies in five key areas—taxation, technology, trade, agriculture, and tourism—to solidify economic growth, help the country escape the middle-income trap, and achieve sustainable development.

Anutin also issued a statement on Facebook pointing out the ever-escalating conflict in the Middle East, with infrastructure and oil refineries coming under attack, causing the world to face the risk of an energy crisis. He wrote, “What is certain is that the conflict will intensify and it will take a long time to find a solution.”

Anutin noted that as a nation that imports a large amount of crude oil, Thailand must raise awareness and understanding of the current situation and find ways to manage domestic petroleum resources to minimize the impact on its citizens as much as possible.
