The Ministry of Finance has approved and allocated RM40 million to Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT). MCA President and Chairman of the TAR College Education Fund Trustee Board, Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Datuk Seri Anwar.

Wee Ka Siong stated that the government has transferred the RM40 million allocation to the bank account of TAR UMT via online transaction on January 15th.

He pointed out that for three consecutive years, during January, the Ministry of Finance has transferred this funding into the TAR UMT account. As always, TAR will utilize this allocation to provide affordable quality higher education to students from low-income families.

“As early as May 29th last year, I wrote to the Prime Minister to apply for the allocation for TAR UMT for the year 2025. On September 18th, I led an MCA delegation to meet the Second Minister of Finance, Datuk Seri Amirudin Hamzah, to present suggestions for the 'Budget 2025', specifically mentioning the allocation for TAR.”

He noted that on December 3rd, before the 'Budget 2025' was sought for third reading approval in the House of Representatives, the Ministry of Finance confirmed that TAR received the RM40 million allocation, and the transfer was officially made yesterday.

“Since its establishment, TAR has been receiving government funding. There are four Ministry of Education representatives and one Ministry of Finance representative on the TAR Board, setting TAR apart from other universities.”

“Over the years, TAR has always effectively used government allocations to provide affordable tertiary education to students through affordable tuition fees, and has nurtured over 310,000 graduates.”

“I also wrote on behalf of the institution today to again thank Prime Minister Anwar for his support of TAR UMT, allowing children from all ethnicities to continue enjoying affordable tertiary education and contribute to the country in the future.”
