PUTRAJAYA, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- Some 35 to 40 Members of Parliament have expressed their readiness and interest in taking part in a special Dewan Rakyat sitting to debate the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), said Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.

The MADANI government spokesperson said the special sitting has been scheduled for Aug 11.

“The Cabinet was informed that Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul has agreed for the session to be held continuously without breaks.

“At present, some 35 to 40 members of Parliament have expressed their readiness and interest in debating the issue,” he said during a weekly press conference here today.

Fahmi said the public could watch the special sitting live via the official media channels broadcasting the Dewan Rakyat proceedings.

The media had previously reported that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the special Dewan Rakyat sitting to debate the findings of the RCI report on TH would begin at 10 am on Aug 11 and continue until the afternoon.

The RCI report on TH, uploaded on the official portal of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) on July 29, recommended a forensic audit of past investment decisions that led to a severe deterioration in TH’s asset value.

The report, which investigated the management and operations of TH between 2014 and 2020, identified several problematic investments that warranted forensic examination.

The commission also found evidence of suspicious transactions and the concealment of information.
