Eurostar Train Services Gradually Resume After Power Supply Failure Temporarily Closes Channel Tunnel

Published at Dec 31, 2025 11:33 am
Eurostar operator Getlink announced on the 30th that as sections of the Channel Tunnel reopen, Eurostar services will gradually resume.

A Getlink spokesperson said the first trains to resume operations are expected to depart around 4 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time.

The spokesperson noted that construction work is ongoing and normal service is expected to be restored by nighttime.

Earlier, Getlink had announced that railway traffic through the Channel Tunnel had been temporarily suspended that day due to a power supply failure.

The company told the media that the power supply failure caused trains to be stranded, affecting both inbound and outbound services to and from London. Journeys between London and major continental cities such as Paris (France), Amsterdam (Netherlands), and Brussels (Belgium) were delayed or cancelled. Passengers were advised to postpone their trips.

With the end of the year approaching, Eurostar is entering one of its busiest operating periods. Eurostar is expected to carry around 19.5 million passengers in 2024.
