Survey: Taipei Becomes 'Most Desired City for Long-Term Residence', Ho Chi Minh City Ranks Second

Global design and architecture firm Gensler recently released the “2025 City Pulse: Magnetic Cities” survey report, in which Taipei surpassed major international cities such as Singapore, Sydney, and Berlin to be crowned the 'Most Desired City for Long-Term Residence' in the world.

According to a report from Central News Agency on the 8th, Gensler's global survey, “2025 City Pulse: Magnetic Cities”, collected opinions from 33,000 urban residents across 65 cities worldwide to explore the reasons and locations people choose to settle.

The survey compiled the percentage of residents in each city who answered they were ‘unlikely’ to move. The results show the top 10 international cities people most want to reside in long-term are Taipei (64%), Ho Chi Minh City (61%), Singapore (59%), Sydney (58%), Berlin (51%), Monterrey (50%), Munich (49%), São Paulo (49%), Vancouver (49%), and Seoul (47%).

According to the Gensler survey, among 152 factors, the top five indicators influencing whether residents will settle long-term are: “I do not feel bored in this city,” “This city feels like home to me,” “I feel proud of this city,” “This city is increasingly suitable for retirement,” and “My sense of belonging to the city grows over time.”

For the United States, the top 10 most desired cities for long-term residence are, in order: Minneapolis (53%), San Antonio (53%), San Diego (50%), Raleigh (49%), Chicago (47%), Tampa (47%), Portland (47%), Phoenix (46%), San Francisco (46%), and Austin (46%).

In addition, in this report Taipei scored 73%, 78%, 76%, 69%, 71%, 70%, 60%, and 71% in economic strength, safety and stability, urban vitality, climate adaptability, quality of life improvement, community investment level, addressing homelessness, and crime reduction, respectively—all higher than the global average.
