The Jeju-do Fire and Safety Headquarters reported that at approximately 2:47 p.m. local time, a man in his 60s drove a business van in Jeju City, Udo, and successively struck a crowd and a road sign next to a ferry waiting area.
After the accident, two tourists and one passenger in the vehicle were seriously injured and airlifted to the hospital by a Korean helicopter, but ultimately died. Additionally, 10 people, including the driver, were injured and have been taken to the hospital.
It is reported that the vehicle had just disembarked from the ferry when the crash occurred.
Tokyo Accident: 11 Dead or Injured
Meanwhile, on the 24th in Tokyo, Japan, a similar vehicle-ramming accident occurred, resulting in 1 death, 1 person with no vital signs, and 9 injuries.
According to police, at noon on that day, a car in Adachi Ward, Tokyo, first hit pedestrians on a crosswalk, then drove onto the sidewalk striking several passersby in succession. The car stopped after crashing into a guardrail several hundred meters away, and the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
The accident resulted in the death of a man in his 80s, a woman in her 20s showing no vital signs, and 9 others injured.
Police stated that the vehicle involved was an unlicensed display car. About two hours before the incident, a nearby car dealership reported that a man, posing as a customer, drove off with a display car. The man has since been detained by police.
