Appointment and Appreciation Letters for Temenggong in Miri Division

(Miri, 20th) The Miri Division Residency Office held a ceremony this morning on the 9th floor of the Sarawak Islamic Complex to issue appointment and appreciation letters for the Temenggongs, recognizing the significant contributions of community leaders in promoting local development and preserving cultural traditions. Sarawak's Minister of Transport and Senadin State Assemblyman, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, was the guest of honor.

Newly Appointed and Retiring Temenggongs

Mohamed Bin Abang Othman was officially appointed as the Temenggong of the Malay community in Miri Division, with his term starting from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2028. He will succeed the late Dato Haji Abdul Rahman Bin Fadzail, who passed away on July 14, 2024.

Wilson Atong Ak Limping has served as the Iban Temenggong of Miri Division since October 4, 2004, and his term will end on December 31, 2024. A letter of appreciation was presented to him this morning by the Residency Office to acknowledge his outstanding contributions to the development of the Iban community during his tenure.

In addition, the appointment letter for the Senadin Community Leader was handed over to Pemanca Chai Kuen Ming, who was appointed as the community leader for the Bakam, Lian, Riam, and Lambir areas, with a term from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2028.

Other newly appointed community leaders include Sharfezza Binti Sulaiman, the village head of Kampung Batu 1, Jalan Kuala Baram, Majanah Binti Mohamed Yusope, village head of Kampung Pengkalan Lutong, and Kapitan Tang Tung Ming, responsible for Sungai Adong, Padang Kerbau, and Pujut areas.

The terms of several existing community leaders have been extended, including Kapitan Chong Khee Fah, Kapitan Lai Tze Voon, and Kapitan Chong Ah Muk.

Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin stated that community leaders are crucial bridges between the government and grassroots citizens, with primary responsibilities including assisting in promoting government policies and handling aid program applications such as the Kenyalang Gold Card; conveying public opinion and helping solve local issues; uniting different ethnic groups and promoting social harmony.

Lee Kim Shin urged all community leaders to strengthen cooperation with state assemblymen and local governments to jointly promote the smooth implementation of regional projects, benefiting people of all ethnicities.
