Former Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Attends September 3rd Military Parade; Hu Jintao, Zhu Rongji, and Song Ping Absent

Former Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and other retired leaders attended the September 3rd military parade on the morning of the 3rd.

Live media broadcasts showed that retired CCP elders Jia Qinglin, Wang Yang, Zeng Qinghong, Liu Yunshan, Wang Qishan, and Zhang Gaoli also attended the event.

Hong Xiuzhu Appears at Tiananmen Rostrum

Meanwhile, former Kuomintang chairwoman Hong Xiuzhu appeared at the Beijing Tiananmen Rostrum on the 3rd.

Hong Xiuzhu, wearing a green shirt and black pants, watched the parade from the Tiananmen Rostrum, with a seat very close to the front. At the official start of the parade, Hong Xiuzhu’s seat could be seen just one row behind the CCP elders.

In any case, former CCP General Secretary Hu Jintao, who will turn 83 at the end of the year, and former Premier Zhu Rongji, who turns 97 next month, were not present. Hu Jintao’s last public appearance was in December 2022, when he went to the hospital to bid farewell to Jiang Zemin upon Jiang’s passing.

Zhu Rongji has rarely appeared in public in recent years. His last attendance at a public event was in October 2018, when he met with members of the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management Advisory Board in Beijing. He has since been absent from major events such as the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC in 2019, the CCP’s centennial celebration in 2021, and the 20th CCP National Congress in 2022.
