China-Europe Railway Express Connects 26 Countries and 232 Cities; Surpasses 20,000 Trains Annually for the First Time in 2025

China Central Television (CCTV) reported on the 8th that China State Railway Group (China Railway) revealed that in 2025, the China-Europe Railway Express will operate 20,022 trains, marking the first time the annual number has surpassed 20,000, with goods valued at over $67.7 billion (274.447 billion MYR). By the end of 2025, the China-Europe Railway Express will connect 128 cities within China and reach 232 cities in 26 European countries.

An earlier report by China News Service stated that China Railway recently held a work meeting, noting that in 2025, the group will steadily advance key overseas projects. These include the full-scale construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway, the full opening and operation of the Serbia section of the Hungary-Serbia Railway, the China-Laos Railway (Mohan-Vientiane section) seeing year-on-year growth in passenger and freight volumes of 2.3% and 15% respectively, and the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway safely and smoothly operating for two years with a cumulative ridership exceeding 13 million.

In 2025, China Railway will build an international logistics brand utilizing railways. The China-Europe (Asia) Railway Express will operate 34,000 trains and transport 3.17 million standard containers, representing year-on-year increases of 9.8% and 7.6%, respectively. The New Western Land-Sea Corridor service will send 1.42 million TEU, a year-on-year increase of 47.5%.

It is noted that in 2026, China Railway will show even greater achievement in serving the development of a new economic pattern and in the high-quality construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. Plans include advancing the construction of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor, operating high-quality, scheduled China-Europe Railway Express trains, strengthening the railway’s backbone role in the New Western Land-Sea Corridor, reinforcing the transport capacity of the eastern, central, and western corridors, expanding the coverage of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor service, and promoting increased volume and improved quality for container train transport.
