MARA Hires Veterans as Dorm Wardens to Strengthen Discipline and Eradicate Campus Bullying

(Kuching, 11th) The People’s Trust Council (MARA) has begun recruiting military veterans as full-time dormitory wardens for its residential educational institutions, in order to strengthen student discipline management and prevent campus bullying issues.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Rubiah Wang, stated that this move aligns with MARA’s “zero tolerance for bullying” policy which is implemented across its educational institutions, including Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) and MARA Higher Education Institutions (IPMA).

During an interview with the media yesterday (June 10) at MRSM Kuching, she mentioned that by appointing full-time wardens, dorm management and student welfare supervision work would become more effective, while also alleviating teachers from the additional burden of managing dormitories.

She said:

“We are currently recruiting full-time wardens from among military veterans, as they possess extensive experience in discipline and managing boarding students.”

According to a TVS report, Rubiah emphasized that although the number of reported bullying cases in MARA educational institutions is relatively low and mostly isolated incidents, the organization still takes the matter very seriously and is committed to preventing bullying incidents.

She stated:

“Although the number of cases is not high, MARA will never let its guard down. We are further strengthening preventive measures to ensure that bullying culture is completely eradicated from our educational institutions.”

In addition to hiring veterans as dorm wardens, MARA is also actively implementing various awareness-raising educational activities to help students understand the legal consequences and psychological impact of bullying behavior.

At the same time, the organization continues to strengthen its supervision mechanisms to detect disciplinary issues early and intervene in a timely manner to prevent situations from worsening, while also encouraging parents to play a more active role in supervising their children’s behavior.

Rubiah pointed out that this series of measures is aimed at creating a safer, healthier, and more conducive campus environment for the learning and growth of all students.
