KOTA KINABALU, April 21 (Bernama) -- No structural damage or injuries have been reported following a weak earthquake that struck Kundasang, Ranau at 3.02 am today.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said in a statement that a monitoring operation, which began at 6.35 am, involved inspections of shop premises, government buildings and public areas around Ranau town.
“Based on information from the public and observations by building caretakers, no structural damage has been reported so far and the situation remained under control and safe. No injuries or subsequent incidents have been reported,” the statement said.
However, the department said it would continue monitoring the situation from time to time and remained prepared for any possible aftershocks.
The public are also urged to immediately report any damage to the authorities and to adhere to any official instructions from the government agencies
Earlier, the Malaysian Meteorological Department via its official website reported that the magnitude 3.4 earthquake occured at a depth of 10 kilometres, centred at coordinates of 6.1 degrees north and 116.7 degrees east, about eight kilometres northwest of Ranau.
