(Kuala Lumpur, 27th) China and the United States have agreed, under the strategic guidance of their respective heads of state, to fully utilize the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism, maintain close communication regarding their respective concerns in the economic and trade fields, and promote the healthy, stable, and sustainable development of China-US economic and trade relations. This will benefit the people of both nations and promote global prosperity.
The Chinese Embassy in Malaysia issued a statement indicating that, on October 25–26 local time, the Chinese lead representative for the China-US economic and trade talks, Vice Premier He Lifeng of the State Council, and the US lead representatives, Treasury Secretary Besant and Trade Representative Greal, held China-US economic and trade consultations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Guided by the important consensus reached in multiple calls between the leaders of the two countries this year, both sides conducted frank, in-depth, and constructive exchanges and consultations on important economic and trade issues of mutual concern, including US Section 301 measures on Chinese maritime logistics and shipbuilding, extension of reciprocal tariff suspension, fentanyl tariffs and law enforcement cooperation, agricultural trade, and export controls. Basic consensus was reached regarding arrangements to address each other's concerns. Both sides have agreed to further clarify specific details and to undertake their respective domestic approval procedures.
He Lifeng stated that the essence of China-US economic and trade relations is mutual benefit and win-win cooperation; cooperation brings benefits to both, while confrontation harms both. Maintaining stable development of China-US economic and trade relations is in the fundamental interests of both countries and their peoples, and also meets the expectations of the international community.
Regarding differences and frictions arising in economic and trade cooperation, he said both sides should, in the spirit of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, seek proper solutions to each other's concerns through equal dialogue and consultation.
"The results achieved in China-US economic and trade consultations have not come easily and require joint efforts from both sides to safeguard. We hope that the US side will work together with the Chinese side to jointly implement the important consensus reached in multiple calls between the heads of state and the achievements of the economic and trade consultations so far this year, further build mutual trust, manage differences, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and push bilateral economic and trade relations to ever higher levels."
The statement pointed out that the US side expressed that the US-China economic and trade relationship is the most influential bilateral relationship in the world, and the US side is willing to resolve differences and strengthen cooperation with the Chinese side in an equal and respectful manner to achieve common development.
