(France, 27th) — The investigation into the theft at the Louvre Museum has made progress. According to information disclosed by French authorities on the 26th local time, suspects involved in the case have been arrested. However, as of press time, the stolen jewelry remains missing.
According to China News Service, both the French Ministry of the Interior and the Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed on the same day that suspects involved in the case were arrested on the 25th, and revealed that one of the suspects was preparing to leave France from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. The French authorities did not disclose the exact number of people arrested, but media outlets such as BFM TV and Le Parisien reported that two suspects were detained.
Le Parisien revealed that both suspects are in their 30s and come from Seine-Saint-Denis, a suburb of Paris. They both have previous criminal records with the police. Authorities suspect that they are members of the gang responsible for the Louvre theft.
According to BFM TV, a considerable amount of biological traces were collected at the crime scene, which greatly aided in tracking the suspects. The report states that the physical evidence currently in the police’s possession includes motorcycle helmets, blowtorches, walkie-talkies, and yellow vests that were used by the suspects. These items were discarded at the scene.
On the morning of the 19th, the Louvre in France suffered a major theft as it opened to the public. Eight pieces of jewelry were stolen from the “Apollo Gallery,” where the royal French jewelry and diamond collection was on display. The Paris prosecutor’s office disclosed that the stolen jewelry was valued at 88 million euros (approximately 432 million ringgit).
