(Kuala Lumpur, 8th) Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar described Malaysia as viewing India as a great and friendly ally, as both countries share close cultural ties and increasingly important geopolitical positions.

With Indian Prime Minister Modi currently undertaking a two-day official visit in Malaysia, Anwar expressed that Malaysia looks forward to strengthening and expanding cooperation with India in various fields.

“We also privately discussed a number of issues of mutual concern, and I believe these topics require our teams to discuss further in detail. But principles are very important – we regard India as our great ally, and the country shares close cultural connections with Malaysia, as well as now being geopolitically very near.”

He said this during his opening remarks at a meeting with the delegation led by Modi: “This visit is of special significance to me personally. I have been looking forward to it for a long time, although it was delayed for various reasons, but at least we are experiencing the warm reception of the Malaysian people.”

On the other hand, Modi expressed heartfelt thanks to Anwar for the warm reception given to him and his delegation, and praised the well-organized arrangements, which left a deep impression.

He pointed out that this official visit allowed him to truly feel the deep and genuine friendship between Malaysia and India, and was an opportunity for him to personally experience the true meaning of friendship.

He said the speed and depth of progress in Malaysia–India relations in recent years is encouraging, and thanked Anwar for his contributions in strengthening ties between the two countries.

He also said that cooperation in agriculture, manufacturing, clean energy, and semiconductors has been continuously deepened, and that joint efforts in skills development, capacity building, defense, and security continue to be strengthened.

In addition, Modi emphasized the importance of cooperating with friendly nations to combat terrorism, and stated that as maritime neighbors, Malaysia and India must fully leverage their bilateral relationship during current times of global turbulence.

He said the main message of this visit is very clear, which is that India seeks to elevate its partnership with Malaysia to a new level, expand cooperation in all fields, and achieve shared prosperity.
