According to Bloomberg, the French Ministry of Finance stated in an email that the French government considers the measure to be “unilateral in nature, lacks legal basis, and is unacceptable.” The statement also mentioned that France has requested EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič to convene an emergency meeting, “demanding that the EU immediately initiate necessary procedures, and challenge this decision.”
Starting Tuesday (December 23), China will impose a provisional countervailing duty deposit of 21.9% to 42.7% on certain dairy products imported from the EU.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced on its website on Monday (December 22) that preliminary findings show that dairy products originating from the EU are subsidized, that China’s domestic dairy industry has suffered substantive damage, and that there is a causal relationship between the subsidies and the substantive damage.
