On August 20, ShopeePay reached a partnership with TenPay Global, Tencent’s cross-border payment platform, to advance the interoperability of cross-border QR code payments.
The initial service will be available to ShopeePay users in Singapore and Thailand. After coming to China, Southeast Asian users only need to open ShopeePay or use the wallet feature within the Shopee App to scan WeChat Pay merchants’ payment QR codes or present their own payment code to merchants, enabling them to make purchases at millions of WeChat Pay merchants across China.
Supphavit Hongamornsin, Head of ShopeePay, stated: “We are bringing the familiar ShopeePay experience beyond our users’ home markets, allowing them to pay abroad as easily and conveniently as they do locally. As tourism and business exchanges between Southeast Asia and China continue to increase, we believe making cross-border payments more seamless will help users and businesses stay closely connected and open up new growth opportunities.”
