(Taiwan, 1st) A fatal accident occurred at a popular diving spot in Okinawa, Japan, where a Taiwanese diving coach and his Taiwanese student went missing after diving. They were later found in a 30-meter deep cave, but both were declared dead after being taken to the hospital.
According to Japanese media reports, the Nago Maritime Safety Department in Okinawa Prefecture stated that at around 3 p.m. on August 31, they received a call from a dive boat captain, reporting that two divers had gone missing about 800 meters north of Manza Beach in Onna Village.
That day, five people entered the water together for a dive at 2:45 p.m., but about 10 minutes later, two went missing. The remaining three were rescued by an instructor from another dive shop.
Rescue personnel, two and a half hours after being informed, found the two missing individuals unconscious in a 30-meter deep cave. They were later declared dead at the hospital.
The deceased were identified as 28-year-old Taiwanese tourist Zhang Bohan (transliteration) and 24-year-old Taiwanese man Zhao Xiangyu (transliteration), who lived in Okinawa and worked as a diving coach. It was their third dive of the day when the incident occurred. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
