PETROSNiaga Takes Multiple Measures; Northern Sarawak Supply Expected to Normalize Within the Week

(Kuching, 7 March) Recently, several areas in Sarawak have been affected by floods. On January 29, PUSAKA Integrated Resources Sdn Bhd (PIRSB) experienced a landslide at its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) filling plant in Bintulu, leading to a shutdown of operations to prioritize the safety of the surrounding community.

The LPG retail division of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS), PETROSNiaga, is closely collaborating with the company to establish a temporary filling facility in Bintulu to meet the supply demands of the Northern Sarawak region. This temporary facility is expected to produce 50% of the original plant's capacity and is planned to be operational by early April. Meanwhile, repairs to the existing filling plant are underway and are expected to take up to six months to complete.

In the meantime, PETROS' LPG retail division has taken several measures to minimize supply disruptions in the Northern Sarawak area. The Senari Independent Oil Terminal (IOT) in Kuching has increased LPG production from a daily average of 13,000 bottles to approximately 26,000 bottles, in order to meet Sarawak's daily market demand of 25,000 bottles. Additionally, PETROSNiaga has set up additional storage facilities in the Northern Sarawak region to enhance supply capability.

To ensure that the LPG supply meets market demand in high-demand areas such as Miri, Bintulu, and Sibu, the number of transport vehicles and LPG bottles has been significantly increased to ensure faster and more stable distribution. These initiatives reflect PETROSNiaga's ongoing commitment to maintaining stable supply and meeting the demands of both household and commercial users.

Moreover, PETROSNiaga is sourcing additional LPG supplies from Sepanggar Bay in Sabah to boost the supply capacity in the Northern Sarawak area, with supply conditions expected to return to normal within a week.

The subsidized price for domestic LPG remains at 26 Malaysian Ringgit and 60 cents per bottle, and consumers can purchase it through authorized dealers and distributors.

If any unauthorized price increases or additional charges are discovered, consumers can call the PETROSNiaga customer service hotline at 1300-88-2122, or contact the Domestic Trade and Living Costs Ministry (KPDN) complaint hotline at 1-800-886-800, or report via WhatsApp at 019-8488000.

PETROSNiaga will continue to be committed to ensuring stable LPG supply across Sarawak and urges consumers to purchase LPG according to actual needs to avoid unnecessary panic buying. At the same time, it calls on everyone to remain calm and trust that PETROSNiaga can ensure reliable and affordable energy supply for homes and businesses.

The Senari Independent Oil Terminal in Kuching has increased its daily production from 13,000 LPG bottles to approximately 26,000 bottles.

The Senari Independent Oil Terminal in Kuching is currently operating around the clock to increase output in high-demand areas such as Miri, Bintulu, and Sibu.
