After 7.4 Magnitude Strong Earthquake in Mindanao, Philippines, Moderate Earthquake Occurs in Philippine Archipelago Region; No Tsunami Threat for Malaysia

Less than two hours after a 7.4-magnitude strong earthquake hit Mindanao, Philippines, another moderate-intensity earthquake occurred in the Philippine archipelago region. The Malaysian Meteorological Department has also confirmed that this earthquake will not pose a tsunami threat to our country.

According to a statement released by the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the earthquake occurred on Friday (October 10) at 11:32 a.m., with its epicenter located at 7.1 degrees North latitude and 127.0 degrees East longitude, at a depth of about 10 kilometers, and measured 5.5 in magnitude. The epicenter was approximately 134 kilometers east of Davao, Philippines.

The Meteorological Department indicated that preliminary analysis shows this earthquake did not trigger a tsunami and poses no threat to Malaysia.

The authorities will continue to closely monitor seismic activity in the region and issue further notifications if necessary.
