Malaysia emphasizes the importance of comprehensive and meaningful implementation of ASEAN’s 'Five-Point Consensus' regarding the Myanmar issue, especially in stopping violence, increasing humanitarian assistance, and engaging in inclusive dialogue with all stakeholders in Myanmar.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said that during his courtesy visit to Myanmar Prime Minister and Minister for National Planning U Nyunt Swe in Nay Pyi Taw, he expressed these positions.

“We also discussed the upcoming elections in Myanmar.”

He stated in a Facebook post today that his official visit was made in his capacity as Foreign Minister of the 2025 ASEAN Chair country, and that this action was undertaken following the resolutions of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting held this July.

Mohamad Hasan departed for Myanmar yesterday, where he held meetings with the country’s foreign minister and several high-level leaders.

Since February 1, 2021, when the Myanmar military ousted the democratically elected National Unity Government (NUG), the country has been mired in political and humanitarian crises.

In April 2021, ASEAN leaders held an emergency meeting where they adopted the 'Five-Point Consensus,' including immediate cessation of violence, engagement in constructive dialogue with all relevant parties to restore peace and stability, and the provision of humanitarian assistance to the Myanmar people.
