Bandar Seri Begawan, 9th -- The enforcement unit of the Labor Department recently carried out an operation aimed at enforcing and ensuring that employers comply with the 2009 Employment Order.

Officers conducted inspections on electronic product sales activities in the Lambak area and found that employers committed up to five violations of the 2009 Employment Order against both local and foreign workers.

Violations include: Chapter 112(2) regarding the unauthorized employment of foreign workers, where foreign workers were found working in positions not in line with their authorized roles, such as technicians and clerks performing general labor roles; Chapter 71 for failing to provide paid annual leave to employees; Chapter 65 for employees being overworked beyond permissible hours; Chapter 63 for not providing rest periods, and Chapter 39(2) for not paying overtime compensation.

For violations of the 2009 Employment Order, once discovered, employers may be subjected to fines of no more than BND 1,000 per violation. If fines are not paid, employers will be taken to court.

Therefore, the Labor Department reminds employers to constantly monitor employee welfare matters in accordance with the requirements of the 2009 Employment Order.
