(Bandar Seri Begawan, 14th) MP Mahari proposed the necessity of improving training programs for the hotel and service industry at the 21st Legislative Council meeting.
He emphasized the importance of upgrading infrastructure, facilities, and service quality to attract more tourists, particularly by attracting and enhancing the skills of young people.
In response, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, Dato Abdul Manaf, emphasized that the ministry has implemented various training programs aimed at improving the skills and capacities of young people in the hotel and tourism industry.
By 2024, a total of 17 training courses and 3 knowledge transfer programs have been held, benefiting more than 300 participants. These courses include basic bird watching, professional tour guide training, the Seri Begawan City heritage tour, and storytelling and customer service training courses in collaboration with SEAMEO Voctech.
The ministry has also collaborated with embassies of friendly countries to offer courses in Russian, Turkish, and Mandarin.
Furthermore, institutions such as the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) and private colleges play an active role in hotel industry training, including food presentation and quality service.
The minister affirmed that recognizing the important role high-quality service plays in attracting international tourists, the ministry will continue its commitment to expanding training and capacity-building programs, especially for young people eager to join the hotel industry.
