The Cambodian capital Phnom Penh opened its new airport on the 9th, marking the closure of the Phnom Penh International Airport, which had been in use for 66 years, on the night of the 8th.
The new airport, named Techo International Airport (Techo International Airport, code KTI), officially commenced operations on the 9th, with a grand inaugural ceremony to be held that day.
According to the Khmer-China Times, the new airport is located in Kandal Province, about 19 kilometers from Phnom Penh city center, with a total area of 2,600 hectares, and is being constructed in three phases, with construction starting in 2020. The airport is designed to the world’s highest 4F standard and is the largest airport project in Cambodia’s history.
On the inaugural day, flights from Cambodia Angkor Air (Air Cambodia) and Singapore Airlines will be the first to land.
