The Storm Over the Withdrawal of Support for the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar to Settle Soon, Zahid: UMNO and Pakatan Harapan Discuss Solution

(Kuala Lumpur, 3rd) Barisan Nasional and UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid has indicated that the controversy surrounding the 14 Barisan Nasional Negeri Sembilan state assemblymen’s withdrawal of support for the Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin is soon coming to an end.

He said that the UMNO political bureau and the Pakatan Harapan political bureau will meet next week for discussions, during which a solution is expected to be reached.

He emphasized that the 14 Negeri Sembilan BN state assemblymen only withdrew their trust in the Menteri Besar, and that this is unrelated to the Negeri Sembilan Unity Government.

“This issue is already at its tail end, because it was not done for the sake of a ‘backdoor’ move. The withdrawal of support is only towards the Menteri Besar, not the Unity Government. Many people have misunderstood—these 14 state assemblymen are still within the Unity Government.”

“However, their withdrawal of support for the Menteri Besar is definite.”

Ahmad Zahid stated this when interviewed by Media Prima.

He said he has already sought opinions from UMNO Negeri Sembilan leaders and also consulted customary affairs leaders to understand the background and developments.

He stated that his position on this matter is clear—UMNO should not be involved in disputes regarding customary affairs.

As to whether UMNO hopes Pakatan Harapan will change the Menteri Besar candidate, Ahmad Zahid said that it is all up to Pakatan Harapan to decide.

He said, the Pakatan Harapan leadership knows the real issues at play and understands the root causes, so whether to replace the Menteri Besar or not is for Pakatan Harapan to decide on their own.
