(Seremban, 3rd) A 10-year-old girl tragically drowned after accidentally slipping into an artificial pond yesterday at Taman Eko Rimba Jeram Toi, Jelebu District, Seremban.
Jelebu District Police Chief, Superintendent Azizan, issued a statement saying that the girl had gone to the location with her family for a picnic at around 5 p.m.
"Initial investigations revealed that she and her mother both slipped into the pond while picnicking."
The victim's mother managed to save herself, but the girl sank to the bottom of the pond. "The child's mother stated that her daughter was not a good swimmer."
With the help of other visitors at the scene, the victim was found at the bottom of the pond and was rushed to Jelebu Hospital for emergency treatment, but was confirmed dead.
Azizan stated that a post-mortem would be conducted today to determine the cause of death. The case has been classified as sudden death (SDR).
