(Bandar Seri Begawan, 14th) The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports participated in the 2025 ASEAN Women, Peace and Security Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from September 9 to 10, 2025.
The Permanent Secretary (Community Affairs) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Nor Ahekin, attended and chaired the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (SOMRDPE).
In her opening speech, Dato’ Maziah Che Yusoff, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, emphasized that the government, civil society, academia, youth, and the security sector must act together to bring real change for women and girls.
The summit also witnessed Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Fadillah launching the first National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (NAP WPS 2025-2030).
The closing ceremony of the summit was presided over by Dato’ Seri Wan Azizah. She emphasized that the WPS agenda not only covers conflict issues but also includes human dignity, security, and resilience.
The two-day summit brought together stakeholders from the ASEAN region, aiming to strengthen the WPS agenda. The main focus of discussions was on the implementation of the ASEAN Regional Plan of Action on WPS, women's leadership in conflict prevention, and new challenges including climate change and digital security.
