(Miri, 24th) In conjunction with the "Explore Malaysia 2026 with WIRA and MANJA" mascot tourism promotion campaign, the organizing committee will bring Malaysia's tourism mascots WIRA and MANJA across to Borneo from August 28 to September 3 for seven consecutive days. The tour will cover Miri, Bintulu, and Sibu, using check-in spots, interactions, food, and cultural experiences to further promote East Malaysia’s unique natural scenery, historical culture, and local delicacies.
Committee secretary Liu Jin Fu stated that after completing as many as 42 flash mob check-in and promotional events for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 in Peninsular Malaysia, the team is finally extending their tourism promotion to East Malaysia, specifically Sarawak. He pointed out that East Malaysia is also an indispensable part of exploring Malaysia, especially as Miri and Bintulu boast abundant ecological, cultural, historical, and culinary resources, well worth exploring by both local and international visitors.
He said that during this 7-day tour, in addition to visiting local attractions, there will also be a food carnival with mascots WIRA and MANJA interacting with the public, helping more people get to know Sarawak in a fun and lively way and encouraging people from West Malaysia to include East Malaysia in their travel plans.
On August 28-29, the team will first arrive in Miri, visiting landmarks like the Miri Grand Old Lady (No.1 Oil Well), Miri Kuala Baram Crocodile Farm (Miri Zoo), and exploring Sibu Town’s Xun Zheng coffee shop, Miri Xiang Ji baked buns, and Seafood Hai Xian Lou to experience Miri’s history, culture, and food heritage.
On August 30-31, the team will move to Bintulu, exploring the indigenous people’s market, Tua Pek Kong Temple, the old Bintulu airport runway, and Sebauh township, as well as visiting the Bintulu night market to experience the local community and its specialties.
On September 1-2, the tour arrives in Sibu, visiting the Sibu Central Market, Dataran Sibu (city square), and Sibu night market to better understand Sibu’s diverse culture and urban character.
Miri Parliamentary Service Center assistant Yip Xin Yi warmly welcomed the organizing committee and team to Miri and affirmed their efforts with the departments of culture, tourism, and the arts in promoting Visit Malaysia Year 2026. She said the service center will fully cooperate to assist the team in connecting with the local community.
She also pointed out that tourism promotion shouldn’t just concentrate on West Malaysia—East Malaysia is equally important. Miri possesses rich ecological, cultural, and natural resources, and she welcomes more friends from West Malaysia to visit and discover the unique charm of East Malaysia.
