Taiwanese actor Darren Wang, 33, found himself embroiled in controversy earlier this year. In February, he was accused of paying to avoid military service and being involved in a scandal involving the instigation of a gang assault on a driver. He was later released on bail for NT$5 million (approximately RM690,000). On March 13, Wang complied with government regulations and began serving one year of alternative service. However, initial reports that he instigated an assault were exaggerated into claims of murder instigation. On April 4, Wang’s studio issued a statement, declaring legal action against the “malicious fabrications.”
Currently, Darren Wang has completed a month of military training and is assigned to the Taipei Social Affairs Bureau to perform administrative duties. Reports indicate that his performance has been satisfactory so far.
Despite this, Wang was recently indicted—not for fabricating medical documents to evade service but for allegedly using connections to investigate private information. He reportedly suspected that the leader of a group helping evade military service had taken money without delivering results. Wang sought assistance from businessman Yu Hsiang-Min and Liu Chu-Jung, then acting captain of Taipei City Police Criminal Division, to access personal data of a man named Chen. Additionally, after Wang's influencer girlfriend, Christine Chueh Mu-Hsuan, was allegedly defrauded by a man surnamed Pan, Wang reportedly collaborated with gang member Chen Tzu-Chun to gather Pan’s personal information. The New Taipei District Prosecutor's Office has indicted Wang, Chueh, Yu, Liu, and Chen under charges including document forgery, breach of confidentiality by public officials, and violations of personal data protection laws.
Wang’s studio has strongly refuted the claims of murder instigation. The studio stated:
"Regarding recent reports and online users persistently misrepresenting Mr. Darren Wang through selective coverage and malicious fabrications on digital platforms, we declare that the statements spread are defamatory and inconsistent with actual facts. The studio will continue to monitor civil infringements and criminal activities and will pursue all civil and criminal responsibilities through legal means."
