On the 18th, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said in an open letter to the Iranian people that, in principle, he held a different opinion regarding the Iran-US memorandum of understanding, but approved the relevant arrangements after receiving the Iranian President and Supreme National Security Council’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the Iranian people and the ‘resistance front.’
According to Xinhua News Agency, Mojtaba confirmed that Iranian President Pezeshkian and US President Trump have signed this memorandum of understanding. He noted that, in the process of achieving the current outcome, relevant Iranian officials have made significant efforts.
At the same time, Mojtaba stated that the US President has used ‘all possible means’ to push for these arrangements, but did so in a state of ‘predicament and helplessness.’
Mojtaba pointed out that Pezeshkian made it clear that if the US side made ‘excessive’ demands, Iran would not accept them. He emphasized that the face-to-face negotiations to be held in the future do not mean acceptance of the US position, and Iran will continue to observe the implementation of the agreement’s conditions and commitments.
