(Sibu, 9th) In order to promote a healthy sports culture and allow more people to get to know the increasingly popular sport of Pickleball, Duduong Chinese School held a three-hour “Pickleball Beginner Training Activity” on June 8, 2026, from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the school’s pickleball court.
This event saw the participation of 12 teachers from the school (all beginners), and the onsite atmosphere was very lively, with the participants actively engaging in both learning and practice.
At the start of the activity, the chief coach welcomed everyone and initiated a light-hearted and fun icebreaking activity where participants could introduce themselves and share their sporting experiences. This helped everyone get to know each other and quickly closed the distance between them.
Next, the coach explained the origins, features, and development of pickleball, and boosted team spirit through interactive games.
In the basic knowledge segment, the coach introduced the court structure and related equipment, including paddles and competition-grade balls, and gave a detailed explanation of the rules for the area near the net called the “Kitchen” or “Non-Volley Zone,” as well as the “Continental Grip” that beginners should master.
Following that, the coach gave a clear and thorough introduction to the fundamental rules of pickleball, including the serving rules, the Double Bounce Rule, scoring methods, and kitchen zone rules, allowing participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of match procedures.
Additionally, the coach emphasized the importance of sports safety, reminding participants to always be aware of the ball’s movement and their surroundings, and to properly select appropriate sports shoes to minimize the risk of injuries.
After completing the warm-up session, participants moved into the technical training phase. The coach guided them through practice of correct grip, ready position, forehand stroke, backhand stroke, dinking, and serving techniques.
Afterward, participants were grouped for partner rallies, diagonal shots, and serve and receive practice, enhancing their skills through repeated drills.
In the latter part of the activity, a practical match experience was arranged. Participants took turns playing matches to put their new skills into action in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere and to further understand match rhythm and tactics. Throughout the matches, everyone encouraged one another and engaged in active exchanges, fully demonstrating sportsmanship.
Before the end of the event, the organizers held a Q&A and feedback session. Participants said that the training was rich and practical—not only did they learn the basic knowledge and skills of pickleball, but also developed an interest in sports, and hoped for more similar activities in the future.
This pickleball beginner training activity not only allowed participants to experience the fun of pickleball but also further promoted the development of healthy movement both on campus and in the community, taking a positive step towards popularizing a culture of physical fitness for all.
It is worth mentioning that this event was generously sponsored by WEST LAKE, who also enthusiastically provided pickleball paddles and balls for use during the training. Their support enabled the event to proceed smoothly and demonstrated the company’s strong sense of social responsibility in supporting education and promoting sports development, for which the school expresses heartfelt gratitude.
