Wang Hsiao-ling, an opposition Kuomintang (KMT) legislator in Taiwan, posted on social media that she had been invited to attend the 33rd anniversary celebration of the Xiamen Taiwanese Businessmen Investment Enterprises Association. She remarked that what was originally a good thing unexpectedly became the target of malicious smearing by the green media outlet Liberty Times, and she criticized the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, or “green”) government for being entirely incapable of taking care of Taiwanese businesspeople and citizens working, living, or studying in mainland China.
According to a report last Saturday (December 20) by the pro-green Liberty Times, it is widely rumored in the community of Taiwanese businessmen in the mainland that the mainland is attempting to reach out to opposition political figures, hoping to ensure the blocking of the DPP government’s proposed special national defense budget and important national security amendments. The report also mentioned that the latest news had it that the mainland was making active use of the recently held 33rd anniversary event of the Xiamen Taiwanese Businessmen’s Association as a channel to bring KMT legislators there—nominally to visit Taiwanese entrepreneurs, but in reality to ensure that there would be "no surprises" in the work related to Taiwan.
On Sunday (December 21), Wang Hsiao-ling posted on Facebook stating that it was an honor to be invited to the 33rd anniversary celebration of the Xiamen Taiwanese Businessmen Investment Enterprises Association—not only did she meet friends from the Xiamen Taiwanese Enterprises Association, but also Taiwanese businesspeople from associations in more than 30 cities across the mainland.
Wang Hsiao-ling said she was deeply moved to see everyone working together harmoniously, striving diligently in their respective fields, and that Taiwanese investment holds a prominent place in the realm of overseas investment on the mainland; at the same time, these businesspeople make positive and important contributions to cross-strait exchanges, bringing honor to Taiwan. She expressed feeling very proud of the Taiwanese businesspeople.

Wang Hsiao-ling then pointedly criticized that what was originally something good was unexpectedly subject to malicious smearing by the green media Liberty Times: "They actually maliciously linked the act of attending the celebration to the matter of blocking the national defense budget—this is truly reprehensible."
Wang Hsiao-ling stated that the DPP government has absolutely no ability to take care of Taiwanese businesspeople and the Taiwanese citizens working, living, and studying in the mainland, and said that she would not lose her resolve to promote peaceful cross-strait exchanges and to serve and protect the rights and interests of compatriots on both sides of the strait just because of smearing reports from the DPP and green media, nor would she try to please those who are confused about right and wrong—the "Anti-China-Bluebird crowd" who hate their compatriots on the mainland.
