(Borneo Bulletin Bandar Seri Begawan, 27th) The Brunei parliamentary delegation attended the 45th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly held in Vientiane, Laos, from the 18th to the 22nd of this month.
The theme of this meeting was "The Role of Parliament in Strengthening ASEAN Connectivity and Inclusive Growth", and the meeting adopted 38 resolutions covering various key issues such as political, economic, social, organizational, women, and youth parliamentary affairs.
Members of the parliamentary delegation participated in discussions on the necessity of parliamentary cooperation in the face of cybersecurity threats, focusing on network resilience, digitalization and responsible agricultural investment, plastic pollution, digital health innovation, drug abuse and welfare for the elderly, and other social issues, discussed the management of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, including financial issues, budget proposals, guidelines, procedures, and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Distinguished Service Award, as well as discussions on gender equality, violence against women and children, and women's political participation.
The assembly concluded successfully with all delegation members unanimously signing a joint communiqué.
Malaysia will host the 46th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly next year.
