(Miri, 26th) Miri Single Mothers Counseling Center advisor, Sarawak Transport Minister, and Senadin assemblyman Dato Sri Lee King Sing stated that the 'Patchwork Basics Workshop' aims to assist single mothers in mastering practical skills, achieving economic independence, and fostering warmer family relationships through parent-child joint learning.

He said that this course, organized by the Miri Single Mothers Counseling Center, is one of the membership benefits specifically tailored for single mothers and is also part of the center's long-term short-term skills training programs.

He expressed this today while attending the 'Patchwork Basics Workshop' certificate award ceremony held by the center at the Miri Community College.

Lee King Sing said that, following previous workshops on cake making, pizza making, baking, and other handicraft courses, this session mainly taught participants how to use leftover fabrics from garment production to make patchwork quilts, aprons, cushion covers, and other fabric products.

He said that this course is just the start, and more will be held in the future to help participants learn how to make the best use of discarded fabrics. This not only achieves the effect of environmental protection and reuse, but also allows products to be made for sale, increasing household sideline income.

'More importantly, these types of handcrafts are simple and easy to learn, so children can accompany their mothers in making them. This not only develops interest, but also promotes parent-child interaction and strengthens family bonding.'

He said the purpose of holding skills courses is to hope that single mothers can make good use of their spare time to produce products at home for sale, increase their income, and achieve self-reliance.

Lee King Sing thanked the Miri Community College for their long-term support in providing venues and teaching staff, helping to arrange teachers for baking, confectionery, and handicraft courses, thus creating learning opportunities for single mothers.

He said that after completing the course, participants will be awarded certificates, which not only prove they have received professional training, but also help with future employment. For example, after learning to make pizzas, cakes, and pastries, they can work in related F&B or baking industries, increasing employment opportunities and enhancing competitiveness.
