"The Forever Little Qian" Joey Wong announced her retirement suddenly in 2004 after starring in the movie Shanghai Story, when she was just 37 years old. She later moved to Canada to devote herself to Buddhist practice, and only in recent years returned to the public eye as the owner of a moxibustion wellness center. On the 1st, she attended the “Celebrate the New Year, Talk About Health” forum organized by the University of California Silicon Valley College, where she rarely spoke about her reasons for leaving the entertainment industry at her peak and revealed she once suffered from depression, also sharing practical moxibustion techniques. However, her eyes appeared swollen that day, especially her left eye, which she could barely open, drawing lots of discussion among netizens.

Aquarius Joey Wong will turn 59 on the 31st. On New Year's Day, she was invited to speak at the University of California Silicon Valley College in the San Francisco Bay Area, which specializes in teaching traditional Chinese medicine. Dressed in a black, Chinese-style pantsuit, she first warmly wished everyone a happy new year, "May everyone have great luck and success in the Year of the Horse, and most importantly, be healthy. Amitabha." She then spoke at length, saying she entered the industry as a young girl not because she particularly liked show business, "But people often don't do things out of their own will, and by some twist of fate find themselves in seemingly great circumstances, just as I entered the entertainment industry because of such a fate." As for whether she really enjoyed the lifestyle of showbiz, "You know that in showbiz you can’t sleep properly, and meals are rather careless. Mainly, your days and nights are reversed. But I have one good trait, which is that whenever fate brings something to my side, I cherish it very much. Even if I don’t particularly like or dislike it, whatever fate brings, I always cherish it, so I cherished this experience too."

Speaking about choosing to retire at her peak, she said: "Because I thought that stepping back while at my best would give everyone a whole impression of me, or at least leave people with beautiful memories, and that would be enough." After retirement, she began introspection, reflecting that although her work life was in a small sphere, films made her widely known, "When I went out I didn’t know others, but everyone knew me. I started pondering this, asking myself who I really am. But I could never find the answer on my own, and actually suffered from depression during that period, feeling rather lost because I couldn’t find the answer." Later, perhaps due to the blessings of Guanyin Bodhisattva, she found Lingyan Mountain Temple and began a life of Buddhist practice.
