On the 21st, South Korea's Samsung Electronics announced that its board of directors had approved the 2026 shareholder return plan, with an expected scale of 90 trillion to 110 trillion Korean won (approximately MYR 262.3 billion to 320.7 billion).

This is the largest shareholder return plan in South Korean corporate history.

Samsung Electronics’ competitor, SK Hynix, had just announced on the 19th that it would repurchase and cancel treasury shares worth 40 trillion Korean won, and launched a new shareholder return policy, pledging to use at least 50% of free cash flow over the next three years for shareholder returns.

Samsung Electronics stated that the purpose of this plan is to ensure that the fruits of the company’s growth are converted into tangible benefits for shareholders.

Samsung Electronics first plans to issue cash dividends totaling approximately 30 trillion Korean won in the third quarter, with specific details to be finalized at the board of directors' meeting to be held at the end of October.

According to Samsung Electronics' semi-annual report, the number of minority shareholders is about 8 million, which is nearly one-fifth of South Korea's adult population.
