A man in Cheshire, UK, was stopped by police on the street, but instead of staying with his pet Labrador by his side, he fled on his own. The abandoned dog, eager to return home, ended up leading the police to its heartless owner's hiding place.
According to reports, 41-year-old Charles Foy was riding an electric scooter in Cheshire this February when a patrolling officer detected a strong odor of drugs coming from him and signaled him to pull over.
Foy, who was accompanied by two pet dogs at the time, fled as soon as he realized the situation. During his escape, one of the Labradors was unable to keep up and got left behind.
Police-released footage shows the abandoned Labrador appearing very friendly, prompting the officers to follow it. The dog wagged its tail the entire way, its adorable behavior earning constant praise from the officers as a "good boy."
The dog eventually led the officers to an address on Beaconsfield Road. At first, they thought no one was home, but upon seeing Foy's other dog at the window, the officers entered the house, successfully found him hiding in the attic, and arrested him.
Foy was charged with evading arrest, driving without a license, driving without insurance, and refusing a drug test. On the 7th of this month, he was sentenced to three years in prison by the local court and had his license revoked for four years and three months.
Officer Mike Smith stated that Foy showed complete disregard for his pet while fleeing, showing no loyalty at all. Ironically, it was the dog's unwavering loyalty to its owner that led the police right to his hiding place, making the pet an unexpected "key witness" in cracking the case.
