On the 26th, the Armed Forces of Guinea-Bissau made a statement on national television, announcing the takeover of national power.

It is reported that gunshots were heard near the Presidential Palace of Guinea-Bissau that day, after which uniformed personnel took control of major roads leading to the Presidential Palace.

In the statement, Nchama, spokesperson for the Guinea-Bissau 'High Military Command for the Restoration of National Security and Public Order', said that in order to restore national and public order, the Command had decided to immediately remove President Embaló from office.

He stated that the Command had decided to dissolve all public institutions of Guinea-Bissau, suspend the current election process and media activities, close all sea, land, and air borders of the country, and enforce a mandatory curfew from 7:00 PM that day until 6:00 AM the following day, until further notice.

According to reports from multiple foreign media outlets, several senior officials, including President Embaló, have been detained.

The presidential and parliamentary elections in Guinea-Bissau officially began on November 23 local time, with 12 candidates running for president and 14 parties vying for parliamentary seats. The Guinea-Bissau Electoral Commission originally planned to announce the preliminary results of the presidential election on November 27.

The situation in Guinea-Bissau has long been turbulent, having experienced four coups and several unsuccessful coup attempts since independence.
