Civil Servants Urged to Promote the Well-being of All Ethnic Groups, Anwar: Need to Transcend Narrow Perspectives of Race

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar expressed his concern about the overly narrow discussions on racial and religious issues, hence urging civil servants to focus on promoting the well-being of all people, regardless of their background.

Nonetheless, he stressed that the principles of the Federal Constitution, including language, religion, and the privileges of Malays and indigenous people, remain the foundation of national policy.

"Those responsible for managing state or district level, regardless of who is in power, should be aware of which communities are being neglected. Our duty is to respect every citizen and consider them our responsibility; skin color should not be a factor influencing our judgment.

"If they (the people) fall within the ultra-poor category, they must be attended to. If they deserve recognition, they should be recognized."

He said this while addressing the monthly assembly at the Prime Minister's Department on Friday (January 3).

"When I mention the people, do not forget there are still some who are neglected, some who live in poverty, and some who are overlooked. Believe me, as long as there are people who are excluded, we should not feel comfortable and satisfied."

In view of this, Anwar urged the public service to seek comprehensive reform measures to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of serving the public.

"Do we need to gather together to discuss, assess each other's performance, give recognition, and propose new ideas? These are questions we need to ponder together."
