The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that a Malaysian national has been detained in Saudi Arabia and stated that consular assistance has been provided to the individual.

On Friday (3rd), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement to Bernama, saying it is working to ensure that local laws protect the rights of the individual.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will closely coordinate with relevant agencies to properly handle the situation and is committed to providing appropriate support under the principle of maintaining the dignity and privacy of all Malaysians overseas.”

“We urge the media to respect the privacy of the individual and their family during this difficult period. Such issues are sensitive and should not be treated as an opportunity for speculation or gossip.”

Meanwhile, sources revealed that a famous Malaysian comedian, who was arrested in Jeddah last October for possession of drugs, is currently serving a 6-month prison sentence in Saudi Arabia.

The source stated that the sentence was handed down during a court trial in November last year, and the comedian is expected to be released in April this year.

It is understood that if the comedian exhibits good behavior, he may be released early.
